What are the Social Effects of Video Games?

Suppose it’s the weekend and you got an invitation to a party from your friend. But you who have an addiction to playing Video Games think about the Pros and Cons of attending the party.

Guess what conclusion a gamer would finally come to? They are not going to attend the party. They would rather stay at home and enjoy their game.

Don’t mistake this situation for an introverted person. There are many differences between them. An introvert will hesitate to attend the party because they are not good people as they are not good at socializing and would rather do much more productive work in their home as they prefer.

I am not saying that attending parties is not productive, it was just from the point of view of an introvert. But even an introvert should attend some parties as it would be beneficial for their social skills.

There are many Social Effects of Video Games and in this blog, we are going to discuss those effects.

Let’s look at some negative Social Effects of Video Games:

  • Seclusion

When you start to play games continuously you will start ignoring your friends. This will happen when you won’t reply to their text messages, decline every invitation of hanging out, do not answer their calls, and, never pay attention to what they are saying when you meet up.

Soon, your friends will stop inviting you or even talking to you.

In the beginning, you may think that you do not need your friends and you may find friends online while playing. But they are not your long-term friends and they will not advise you whenever you are in any problem. They are talking to you just for gaming purposes.

Soon the loneliness will start to creep in and you will not like it.

Therefore, you need to find other hobbies that will help you to make real friends in the real world.

  • Increase in Toxicity

In the gaming world, there is a lot of harassment and verbal attacks on gamers.

If you are playing with a professional player or with a person who is more experienced than you then they may pass some harmful comments towards you.

They may start calling you a ‘loser’, or say “Go sit at home you are not good enough to play with us”. These comments will start hurting you every time you make any mistake and you will start thinking that you can’t even play a game properly.

And not only that you will receive these types of comments, but you will also start passing these comments to other players, and you will never know how it is affecting them.

  • Damage between the Relationship

Parents usually have the habit of asking their children to study for upcoming exams, tests, etc. But, because of your gaming, you will lie to them by saying “Yes I’ve studied for my upcoming exam and I am not spending too much time on games”. This will lead to an increase in trust issues with your parents and they will start doubting everything you say. Because let’s be honest our parents know when we are lying and when we are not, and if not then the result will say enough.

Bottom Line

Therefore, they were some Social Effects of Video Games but there are many more. So, it is advised that you should play video games up to a certain limit. There are some positive aspects of gaming also. But as they say, Excess of everything is bad.
